Some decisions we make in life can seem so right in the moment. Sometimes, it can deceptively appear to be the only response, the only possible decision at the time. Therefore, we move forward in this limited understanding – spring into action – and leave a trail of hurt, devastation, distrust, guilt, shame and broken relationships in the wake. However, in retrospect, it begins to become clearer though that we have, almost always, severely limited the limitless God by our own short-sided, human understanding. Time goes on, we appear to do the same; but, inside – where no human eye can see – real, un-communicated damage exists.
There is healing though – whether you made the regretful decision or were seemingly irreparably affected by that which was another’s. There is a way through though... (No, there is no fruitful path around the mess.) Sometimes, we think that we are waiting on God for some blessing, but the truth is – He is actually waiting on us… In fact, whether you realize it or not, God has been standing right there, in the middle of the mess with you – all along. He is lovingly waiting on you, working on the details of His plan for your life, while at the same time refining you. Simply turn, take the first step, reach out and decide – to surrender your free will in exchange for His perfect will. The truth is this: we often already know what we need to do. Forgiveness…hope…still exists for the most devastated of relationships to be restored. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” ~ Winston Churchill Decide to return, continue along the path that you knew was right and best all along.
I know now that God does His best work in the midst of and through the most unexpected, unpleasant, admittedly uncomfortable happenings in one’s life. Through focused, committed, "prayer without ceasing" for wisdom/understanding -- through surrender to Him, acceptance of His plan (not our own), and the courage to be obedient -- when we least expect it, we can find ourselves living out a reality far greater than anything we could have ever imagined or orchestrated for ourselves! (Isaiah 55:8-9) In an instant, God can change your pit experiences into a palace summons! (Genesis 45:5-8) Finding the courage to be completely obedient to God’s more perfect will for my life has ushered in peace, joy and contentment – a kind which I have never before known… So, I encourage you to spring forward today, 2014 can be the Year of Restoration in your life!
